The Kukuryak Foundation was founded in 2018 in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. We work year-round with children from 5 to 12 years old. Our focus is education, learning about nature, through experience and tourism. We work in mixed groups with children with hearing deficits, dyslexia, bilinguals, hyperactive and those without difficulties. In Kukuryak, children learn that differences are not so important and that everyone can learn to communicate with each other. We have good examples of how hearing children learn the language of the deaf, along with a deaf child, and how he begins to speak without worrying that others will laugh at him. During the school year, we help the children with learning the material for school, helping them with writing their homework. During the holidays, we travel, ride kayaks, sleep in huts and tents, climb, walk in the mountains, invite people from science and non-governmental organizations, who tell children interesting facts about nature in a fascinating way. One of our great successes is the Charity Walk “Kozya stena”, during which we raised funds for the creation of two wheelchairs for children, adapted for mountain terrain.
