The Italian Multiple Sclerosis Society (AISM) was founded in 1968. It is the only organization in Italy that addresses every aspect of multiple sclerosis. It advocates for the rights of people with MS, provides health and social services, provides orientation and promotes and finances scientific research. Thanks to the MS Society’s network of 98 local branches and regional coordinating centers present throughout Italy, and with over 13,000 volunteers, it provides accessible information, support and services to every person with MS and his or her family. The MS Society’s commitment to research focuses on identifying effective therapies and treatment, slowing the progression of the disease, and one day finding a definitive cure. This requires concrete resources and thanks to the establishment of the MS Society’s research foundation – FISM, in 1998, these efforts have been rewarded. AISM places great importance on the rights of people with MS in order to assure their full inclusion in society and invests in a tangible advocacy plan that promotes programs and actions to improve the political, social and healthcare landscapes.
