“Il Portico” is an association active in the territory of the province of Venice since 1985. It was founded by a group of young people involved in social work and offers supportive help to people in difficulty. Over the years, the Portico has become a point of reference for many disabled and/or lonely people who have frailties of various kinds, with a prevalence of mental and psychic discomfort, caused by different forms of marginalization. “Il Portico” carries out activities that go from hospitality to work, from leisure to integration, i.e.: • entertainment in the free time of disabled and marginalized people; • reception and temporary hospitality of people in difficulty; • awareness-raising and involvement interventions and projects for the growth of a culture of integration and social justice; • carrying out activities in the context of European programmes. An important objective of the association is to make people, friends and citizens aware of the importance of giving attention to the “other”, to the neighbor in difficulty. Today, “Il Portico” association has about 500 members, including approximately 200 volunteers.
