Lazzarelle was born in 2010 inside the largest women’s prison in Pozzuoli – Naples. It produces artisan coffee, according to the ancient Neapolitan tradition. It is an all-female enterprise that enhances artisan knowledge and generates social inclusion by bringing together women inmates and small coffee producers from the southern hemisphere. Coffee beans are bought  from the Shadilly, a cooperative which promotes cooperation projects with small producers. At a later stage, tea, infusions and herbal teas were added to the artisan coffee production. The coffee is produced without any additives and it respects the natural preparation times of the ancient Neapolitan artisan school. Coffee packs are eco-sustainable and can be recycled with plastic. So far 56 women have worked in Lazzarelle. Each of them with their own history, entered the cooperative, learned a trade and acquired awareness of their rights and their possibilities.
