The Thamaia Association was established in 2001 with the purpose to promote and encourage a better quality of life for women and minors who live in conditions of violence and family abuse. To guarantee information on services offered, the Thamaia Onlus Association constantly carries out awareness-raising on issues related to male violence against women and information work aimed at citizens, at the operators of social-health services, the police forces and schools. Conferences, meetings and seminars are held aimed at the prevention of gender-based violence and education on legality. Since 2003, the Association has managed the Anti-Violence Center for women who suffer abuse in the family, sexual violence and stalking. The Thamaia Anti-Violence Center is mainly supported by funding derived from projects with public and/or private bodies. At the Center there are professionals who use a feminist approach that places the woman at the center of her path out of the situation of abuse. The Center guarantees women confidentiality and anonymity.
