ONG Movimiento Peruanos Sin Agua

“We do not bring water, we bring hope and development opportunities to those who need the most.” Movimiento Peruanos Sin Agua provides access to quality water for vulnerable sectors through innovative comprehensive solutions for the generation of economic and productive activities under a sustainable model that reduces environmental impact. Abel Cruz has created the “atrapanieblas”, a very simple but very efficient technology. It does not require electricity or solar panels. It consists of placing panels of nylon mesh that are between 5 and 6 meters wide, and the same heightthese meshes are supported on each side by thin wooden branches, recycled from the clearings. It manages to capture between 200 and 400 liters of water per day per panel. The meshes trap the water contained in the clouds or suspended in the environment, which falls into a gutter located under the panel, until it reaches a water tank or reservoir. From there, it can be taken for domestic consumption and for agriculture. To date, they have installed more than 1,500 fog catchers in various provinces of Peru, with water harvesting techniques, including infiltration ditches, dikes, and ponds in areas with a lot of fog, to complement the reforestation efforts in the area, increase the vegetation of the springs, rainwater, surface runoff, underground flows, outcrops and their use in human activities as a source of water, and quality of life, for vulnerable families, which has been directly influencing the economic, social and cultural development of all surrounding communities.
